EFFECTIVE COLLABORATION WITH HYDRASPECMA CONTRIBUTES TO CONTINUOUS DEVELOPMENT AT IQR SYSTEMS

IQR Systems AB in Trollhättan develops and manufactures powerful crushing plants for the energy recovery of materials such as recycled wood, waste wood, logging residues, round wood and industrial waste. The collaboration with HydraSpecma started almost 30 years ago, and today IQR has great confidence in HydraSpecma's ability to develop and deliver customized hydraulic solutions.

IQR (Industrial Quality Recycling) was founded in 1979 by Thomas and Jill Karlström and is today run by their son, Daniel Karlström. From the start, the business concept was to take care of worn-out railway sleepers, but by the late 1990s, the FlexHammerTM  1800 crushing plant was developed, followed by the mobile version FlexHammerTM 1500 in 2006. The machines, mainly used at IQR’s own sites where it crushed waste materials for various customers, were continuously developed to optimize operations. A significant change in strategy took place in 2011 when the contracting business was sold and IQR decided to increase its focus on the development, manufacture and sale of crushing machines.

Business Idea: Development, manufacture and sale of crushing machines

HydraSpecma serves as an extra resource for us. It is valuable to have an expert with whom we can discuss questions about the hydraulic system. Today, the good dialogue we have with HydraSpecma allows them to really understand our challenges and enables us to work together to find solutions

POWERFUL CRUSHER WITH GREAT FLEXIBILITY
What distinguishes the FlexHammerTM is its powerfulness. Its flexibility gives it the ability to process many different types of materials and at high volume. In addition, the material is processed in a single step, while many of the competitors' solutions require two machines.

The high quality and IQR’s willingness to optimize each machine to meet the customer's specific needs make the initial cost slightly higher. However, in terms of production cost per tonne, IQR is competitive and attractive to companies focused on quality and a long-term approach.

   – The machines are efficient and can process up to 100 tonnes per hour. In addition, maintenance costs are low and few wear parts are consumed. This means that the production cost per tonne is low. What’s more, our customers have the security of being able to rely on the machine's capacity, says Daniel Karlström, CEO of IQR Systems AB.

HYDRASPECMA ACTS AS A SOUNDING BOARD FOR TECHNICAL ISSUES
The collaboration with HydraSpecma started almost 30 years ago with what was then Kungshydraulik. Over the years, HydraSpecma has supplied components and acted as a sounding board for technical issues.

For a smaller company, it is particularly important that the supplier is also flexible and can listen and contribute to developing the collaboration and the business. A couple of years ago, after IQR felt a slip in HydraSpecma’s commitment, the collaboration was re-evaluated and re-energized.

   – HydraSpecma serves as an extra resource for us. It is valuable to have an expert with whom we can discuss questions about the hydraulic system. Today, the good dialogue we have with HydraSpecma allows them to really understand our challenges and enables us to work together to find solutions, says Daniel.

Quality is important to us, and we want to avoid weak components. We choose pre-assembled solutions from HydraSpecma because it simplifies our work and helps us maintain the high quality that customers expect.”

Daniel Karlström
CEO of IQR Systems AB

LOW COST PER TONNE THANKS TO OPTIMIZED FUNCTIONALITY
IQR works continuously with product development to improve functionality and to adapt to customer-specific needs. The most important thing is to find symbiosis in the program, i.e. that all parts work well together and to find a balance that optimizes each individual part. IQR has employees who previously operated this type of machine, so they can quickly get feedback and make adjustments. In other words, the process moves quickly from idea to design and often in dialogue with HydraSpecma.

   – In our development work, HydraSpecma's hydraulics expertise has come in handy and has enabled us to develop the functionality of individual functions. For example, the reject hatch has been improved so that it opens faster. In addition, a hydraulic drive has been introduced in the hydraulic coolers. Previously, the cooling had an electric drive, but now it runs on its own circuit with hydraulic operation of the fans, says Andreas Abrahamsson, Technical Engineer at IQR Systems AB.

SHOWCASE BRINGS NEW BUSINESS
IQR is optimistic about the future. Today, about six crushing plants per year are manufactured at IQR's site in Vänersborg and are sold mainly in Scandinavia, Benelux and England. However, the goal is to increase the presence in the established markets by showing the market just how beneficial the FlexHammerTM is.

   – We have many satisfied customers, and we know that we offer a very competitive crushing plant. Now all we have to do is get out there and demonstrate its excellence by letting customers see it and test it. I am convinced that it will lead to new business, Daniel concludes.

DELIVERY OF READY-TO-USE KITS SIMPLIFIES ASSEMBLY
In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the purchase of components and services from HydraSpecma. Above all, it is ready-made kits, such as hose kits, pump kits, valve blocks and adapter kits, that are purchased. They are partially assembled, which simplifies final assembly and reduces the risk of errors.

   – Quality is important to us, and we want to avoid weak components. We choose pre-assembled solutions from HydraSpecma because it simplifies our work and helps us maintain the high quality that customers expect, says Daniel.

HydraSpecma also helps to ensure that the components are available when they are needed by keeping an inventory of critical components. In addition, HydraSpecma has provided IQR employees with training in safety issues regarding hydraulics.
